How to Sell Furniture Fast & Turn Your Used Furniture into Extra Cash
Ready to let go of that old college furniture? Or maybe you no longer have space for those inherited antique pieces?
Or do you like to paint, repurpose, or flip furniture and want to sell it and make a profit?
It’s time to declutter, sell some furniture, and make some extra money!
Where to Sell Your Old Furniture:
There are many different places to sell your used furniture.
You can list it on Craigslist, an app like OfferUp or Letgo, or my personal favorite, Facebook Marketplace.
There are also options like antique stores, consignment stores, or having a garage or yard sale.
Your best option for selling your furniture fast and easily is Facebook Marketplace.
On Facebook Marketplace, you can add a listing in minutes, for free, and get messages right away from potential buyers.
What to Write in Your Description:
When you make your listing on Facebook Marketplace, you will want to list your piece in the furniture category so it shows up in searches.
In your description, be sure to include the measurements, color (sometimes it is not 100% clear in pictures), any damage or imperfections, and general location (public meeting place or area of town – not your address!).
What Pictures to Take:
You will want to add a few pictures to your post to show your piece of furniture well to potential buyers. You don’t have to go too crazy with 20 pictures, just show the piece from the front, maybe a side angle, and anything you want to highlight.
If there are imperfections, you may want to include a picture of them.
How to Price Your Furniture:
Pricing can be a little tricky. What I generally do is search for similar items and see what they are priced at.
You want to be at a price that people will be interested in, enough to make it worth selling, but low enough to get it sold fast.
Once you sell a few pieces, this gets a little easier to figure out.
You can always lower the price if it doesn’t sell in the first couple of days, and you can always negotiate with potential buyers in messages. And you should expect people to offer a lower price.
For small end tables in decent shape, you could price them anywhere from $10-$50. For a larger coffee table, maybe $20-$100.
Larger furniture like chairs, benches, tables, beds, and dressers will really depend on the shape and condition they are in. Look at similar pieces and do your best guessing on the price. Remember, you can always lower your price or negotiate with potential buyers!
How Quickly Should My Furniture Sell?
This really depends on the furniture piece, the price, the time of year, and who Facebook shows your listing to.
I’ve had furniture sell in an hour, and I’ve had some pieces take a month to sell. Some things go really quick, and some take a little longer.
It’s hard to tell what will sell fast. From my experience, posting listings closer to the weekend seem to get more interest. Maybe people have more time to look and pick things up, or maybe they have more cash after pay day?
If an item isn’t selling as fast as you would like, you can try lowering the price or just be patient.
I hope these tips will help you sell your used furniture fast, and make some extra cash! Get rid of the clutter in your home or storage area, post it for sale, and make some money!
