Ready for a super fun, frugal, and easy Cricut DIY project? In this post, I’ll show you how to make a cute iron on potholder gift using a Dollar Tree potholder and your Cricut machine!
If you need a small, inexpensive gift idea for someone, make one of these DIY iron on potholder gifts!
I grabbed a potholder for $1 from Dollar Tree, and made this quick gift with my Cricut Joy and my heat press.
This would be a perfect gift for a neighbor, coworkers, friends, teachers, church leaders, grandparents, daycare workers, or anyone you need a small gift for.
Easy Dollar Tree DIY Iron On Potholder with the Cricut
There are many different designs you could do with these potholders. I made mine for my mom and used a color and design that would work all year. You could go for a holiday design, use their initial or name, or a fun image!
Supplies Needed:
Potholder – I got mine for $1 from Dollar Tree
Iron on material – I used black
Cricut machine – I used my Cricut Joy
Optional: baking mix and utensil to make a fun gift
Directions:
1. Open Cricut Design Space and start a new project.
2. Find an image from the image tab or add text.
I typed Made with in the font A Child’s Year and love in the font Babette , and decreased the letter spacing until I was happy with the way it looked. Then, I added a heart from the shapes tab and angled it by dragging the corner slightly.
If you have multiple designs, you can click Select All and then Weld to make it one image.
3. Resize to about 4″ x 5″
You will want to measure your potholder to find the perfect size for your design.
4. Click make it and make your selections.
Make sure to select mirror on for an iron on design.
Select the appropriate material. I used everyday iron on.
And select if you are using a mat or without a mat. You don’t need a mat if you use smart iron on with the Cricut Joy.
5. Apply your iron on material glossy side down on the cutting mat and insert it into your machine.
Press go and let your machine cut your design.
6. Remove the cutting mat and weed the design.
Remove the excess material around your design.
7. Heat your heat press to 320 degrees.
Or whatever your manufacturer recommends in the manual.
8. Press the potholder to warm up the area for a few seconds.
9. Place your design on the potholder and press it for 30 seconds.
10. Let the design cool, then remove the clear backing.
11. Add baking mix and utensil if you wish!
These make great gifts for friends, teachers, neighbors, coworkers, or anyone you need a small gift for!
You can make a simple design, or personalize it for the recipient.
Don’t have a Cricut machine? That’s ok! Just grab a pretty oven mitt or potholder from Dollar Tree and add a baking mix and utensil for a similar gift idea.
This was a fun and simple project to make. And it was very frugal since the potholder was just $1!
