Are you looking for a fun wood craft project to make for gifts, home decor, or to make and sell? In this post, I’m sharing how I make my DIY wooden coasters that sell great at craft fairs!
I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making wooden coasters for a little while. Seemed easy enough, so I decided to give it a shot.
And I’m here to say it is totally do-able! This project only took a few supplies and without drying time, only a very short amount of time.
DIY wooden coasters would be a perfect project for handmade gifts or just a fun craft project!
I’ll show you how I made mine.
DIY Wooden Coasters
Supplies Needed:
Here are the supplies you need to make these super cute DIY wooden coasters:
3.5″ x 24″ poplar wood
Wood stain – I used Dark Walnut
Cricut vinyl or other stickers
Tools used:
Miter saw
Tape measure
Sander
Directions:
Here are the step by step directions to make your own DIY wooden coasters:
-
Cut the wooden squares.
My piece of wood was 3.5″ wide, so I measured 3.5″ long and cut each square exactly the same.
-
Sand the rough edges.
-
Stain the coasters.
I used Dark Walnut stain. Let dry.
-
Make and apply your vinyl decals.
I ended up with 7 coasters, so I made a set of 4 farm animals, a set of UT Vols, and my monogram for my desk.
-
Coat with polyurethane protective sealer.
Cover well with a protective sealer. This will keep the coasters water resistant and the vinyl protected.
-
Add bumpers to the bottom.
This step is optional, but I wanted to add bumpers to my coasters so the wood didn’t sit directly on my coffee table or desk.
I love how these DIY coasters turned out and plan to keep this idea in mind for Christmas gifts!
More fun coaster ideas:
The ideas are really endless for what to put on your coasters. Here are a few ideas I came up with:
- Sports theme
- College spirit
- Monogram or last name initial
- Farmhouse: gather, farm fresh, etc.
- Funny: Use a coaster or I’ll slap you.
- Modern – geometric shapes
Whatever you decide to put on your DIY coasters, I think you will enjoy this fun project!
