Looking for an easy DIY vanity makeover project? I just finished this vanity and love the way it turned out!
I luckily got this vanity for free from someone moving out of an old house, and not wanting it anymore. I couldn’t let it go to waste!
This vanity was old, solid wood, and needed some love to look great again!
DIY Vanity Makeover
Check out how this vanity turned out! I love the painted farmhouse look with the light distressing and bronze hardware.
I so wish I had room in my home for this piece, but I don’t. So, I’m selling it for some side money!

Materials Used:
Sander – This is the sander I have and love!
Valspar Satin Interior Paint in Perfect White
Paintbrush
Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint
Directions:
1. Clean and sand the vanity.
I used my sander to sand down the flat surfaces for a clean surface.
Then, I cleaned everything with an all purpose cleaner and vacuumed out the drawers.
2. Apply 2 coats of Perfect White paint.
You can use any paint you like. I love the Valspar Perfect White paint from Lowe’s because it’s ready to go off the shelf. No need to pick a white and wait for it to be mixed.
I prefer regular paint as opposed to chalk paint, when I’m distressing furniture. And it’s cheaper!
So, I applied one coat, let it dry overnight, then applied a second coat.
I didn’t tape around the mirror, but if you get any paint on the mirror, you can easily wipe it off when it’s wet. Or if it dries, you can scrape it with your finger nail or a small tool easily. So, don’t stress that part! 😉
3. Spray paint hardware.
I cleaned the hardware off, and sprayed it with the bronze spray paint.
This is my favorite spray paint for updating hardware.
Occasionally, I will buy new hardware from Hobby Lobby when it’s 50% off. But, if the original hardware is in good shape and fits the piece well, I just spray paint it!
4. Distress the vanity with a sander.
Once the paint was dry, I distressed the vanity with my sander using a 60 grit sanding pad.
I lightly sanded the edges and any raised surfaces. You can do as little or as much distressing as you wish!
5. Remove dust and attach hardware.
I like to use my blower and vacuum to remove any dust created from sanding, then wipe everything clean with a towel.
Then, just attach the hardware and you are done!
This DIY vanity makeover took me about 2 days to complete, working on it about an hour or 2 each day.
Painting furniture is not as scary as it sounds, or as difficult as it might look.
You can easily update an old piece of furniture with some paint for a fresh, clean look!
