I have been doing a lot of furniture makeovers lately, and this DIY armoire makeover may be a new favorite!
This piece is old and has lots of characters, also known as flaws, but I love it all.
I gave this armoire a few coats of fresh paint, did some distressing, and finished it with some new vintage looking hardware.
The results are so good! I’m loving this refreshed vintage piece!
DIY Armoire Makeover
Painting furniture can totally transform a piece from grubby to glamorously rustic.
I love the way this vintage armoire turned out. This piece is full of flaws that give it character, the perfect vintage feel, and a beautiful farmhouse look!
Here’s the materials I used:
Valspar Perfect White Paint – in Satin
Detail Sander with 80 grit sanding pads
Hardware from Hobby Lobby
The Before:
The armoire was in decent shape, just needed a really good cleaning and update.
DIY Armoire Makeover:
The first thing I did was remove the old hardware and wipe everything clean.
I knew I was going to be distressing this piece, so I didn’t sand the armoire before painting.
This is the paint I used:
It took 3 coats to cover up the black, and a few more coats on areas that were soaking in a lot.
I didn’t paint the inside of the cabinet, so it has some original pieces.
After the final coat of paint had dried, I used my detail sander with an 80 grit sanding pad to distress the armoire.
I like to just hit the edges and a few spots on the flat areas.
You can distress as much or as little as you wish!
Here’s how it looks finished:
This armoire is such a unique piece! I love the imperfectness of it!
Here’s a better look at the new hardware I got from Hobby Lobby. They have such a good selection and great prices!
This piece could be used in so many ways! You can use it as an armoire and store clothes, use it in a kitchen or dining room to store dishes, or just to display old antiques and collectibles.
I had so much fun with this DIY armoire makeover! I hope this tutorial inspires you to makeover a project of your own!
