I’m planning to give my living room a makeover soon, but I’m going to be working on a small budget. To help get all my design and decorating ideas into one cohesive plan, I’ve put together a design board.
For this living room makeover, I’m giving myself a $300 budget. It will definitely be a challenge to complete the makeover on that budget, but I’m determined that it’s possible!
Design Board: Living Room Makeover on a Budget
My living room now is just okay.. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. I love parts and pieces of it, but as a whole, it feels kind of blah.
This is what my living room looks like right now:
My living room makeover on a budget plans:
What I’m keeping:
- Couch (because a new couch is definitely not in the budget!)
- Tan recliner – This is the only piece of furniture my husband and I have bought new.
- Small side tables – These are hand me downs and I love the character of them!
- TV stand – Still debating on this one.. I’ve considered moving it into the kitchen to use as a buffet.
- Lamps
- Tobacco basket – It just needs a new spot I think..
- Wire basket – to hold blankets
- Lanterns
The look I’m going for:
I love the rustic, farmhouse look, but I don’t want it to look like I went on a farmhouse shopping spree at Hobby Lobby. I really want pieces that add character and charm to our living room. So, I think I will be looking for antique items, doing a few DIY projects, and checking out yard sales.
The design board:
The shopping list:
- A large tan jute rug – It needs some color doesn’t it?
- Coffee table (DIY project or painting a yard sale find)
- New paint – I’m thinking a light creamy white.
- Metal wind mill wall décor
- Floating bookshelves
- Big farmhouse clock
- Farm pictures – I have taken about a million photos of our animals, so I’m thinking a black and white collage would be cool?
- Lighter curtains – this is towards the bottom of the list if I have enough in the budget, but I’m okay if this doesn’t happen.
- Small fake plants/greenery
- Farmhouse style pillows
- A pouf
The budget:
$300.
Think I can do it? It’s a tight budget, I know. I plan to use my design board for inspiration, and find great deals similar to the pieces in the design board. Kind of like that old HGTV show Design on a Dime. 🙂
I don’t think I will be able to find everything on my list for $300, but I’m going to do my very best!
Where I’m shopping:
- My house – If I can use anything I already have, then more room in the budget for other items.
- Yard sales – I love yard sales and you can get stuff cheap! And I usually find a lot more unique items that add character to our home.
- DIY projects – A more frugal option than buying everything new, and you know I’m all about personality in our home.
- Facebook Buy, Sell, Trade Groups and FB Marketplace – I don’t mind buying décor used.
- Target, Amazon, WayFair, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx
