Want to make your own DIY front porch home sign to update your porch? I’ll show you how to make a frugal outdoor welcome sign!
Decorating your front porch is a great way to welcome guests in. It’s also the first thing you see when you pull in the drive. So, why not make it pretty?
I love these tall front porch signs that say welcome or home. They are a great way to literally welcome someone into your home. And, they are super easy and frugal to make!
I made a few of these for my upcoming craft shows and wanted to show you how to make one on your own, too!
These wooden signs can be customized to say whatever you want, too!
You can make these for gifts, for your home, or make and sell them at craft fairs!

Stencil letters – I used these 8″ letter stencils for the Home signs and these 6″ Italic letters for the Welcome signs.
White paint
Sandpaper
Small paint brushes

Directions:
Here are the directions to make your own DIY wooden front porch signs:
1. Cut your wood to a 5′ length.
You can have the wood cut where you buy the lumber, or cut it at home with a saw. I prefer to buy the wood in a 10′ length, and make 2. You can invite a friend over to make this front porch home sign with you!
2. Stain the wood and let dry.
These are my favorite wood stains:
MinWax Early American – goes with everything.
MinWax Dark Walnut – a perfect rustic dark stain.
3. Apply your stencil letters and paint.
Space out your letter stencils and use painters tape if needed to secure to the wood. Remove the stencils.
4. Touch up paint if needed.
Stencils are a great way to get started on this sign, but you usually will have to touch up the paint and fill in some areas.
Don’t be scared of this step, just get a nice, small paintbrush and fill in the areas that need it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, because you are going to sand and distress it!
5. Sand and distress.
Once your paint dries, use your sandpaper or an electric sander to distress your sign, focusing on the lettering. You can distress as much or as little as you like.
This DIY front porch home sign is very easy and a very frugal project, coming in at less than $10.
Grab a friend and split a piece of wood and make your signs together!
You can decorate around your sign with milk cans, old crates, wooden chairs, flower pots, or a nice fern.
Have fun!!

This is so simple to do but so beautiful as a decor! It’s a good thing we could come up with something beautiful out of some wood scraps. Thanks for this idea 🙂
