I love painting furniture and trying out new paints! My cousin recently asked me to repaint a vintage dresser for her and I was happy to do so!
I tried out Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint and will share the makeover and my review of the paint below.
Vintage Dresser Makeover & Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint Review
Supplies used:
Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint in Linen White
The Before:
This dresser is really old and had already been painted a few times. I could see the original stain, yellow, and a creamy white.
It’s fun to see what kind of life an old piece of furniture has had.
The dresser definitely was full of character and imperfections, which I love!
The makeover:
There is nothing like opening a brand new can of paint!
Love this linen white color!
And a brand new brush – yayyyy!! I’m the world’s worst at washing out paint brushes, but I’m trying to keep this one good and clean for as long as I can.
I painted one coat, let it dry overnight, and painted a second coat the next day.
Looking good!
The hardware was in great shape, and she wanted to keep it. So, I just cleaned it up a little and screwed the knobs back on.
What do you think?
I think it turned out great!
Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint Review:
I debated a few paints before choosing the Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint.
Price
The reviews were great for this paint, and the price was a lot better than some competitors.
Coverage
This chalked paint went on really smooth and covered really well. I’ve had to paint 3 coats on furniture before, but this covered great with 2. The can says one coat coverage, but, I think this piece needed 2 and looked better with the 2nd coat.
Finish
The finish is really smooth and feels great to the touch! I was afraid of it being super chalky, but it’s actually really smooth. As the can says, it dries to a smooth finish.
Other thoughts
I tried making my own chalk paint on another project, and it worked ok, but got pretty clumpy as it dried. This paint stayed super smooth and never clumped up on me. I’m excited to use it for more projects!!
They have some really pretty colors like serenity blue, blush pink, and country gray. Ok, just send me all of them!! 😉
