Are you wanting to stain or paint a concrete porch floor or patio? We just updated our concrete front porch floor and it looks so much better!
I wasn’t sure how complicated or pricey it would be to stain our concrete front porch floor. Turns out, it’s neither expensive or complicated! This was a rather quick and easy DIY and our front porch looks so much cleaner and fresher!
I’ll show you the easy steps and the supplies we used for this quick and frugal DIY front porch update!
How To Stain A Concrete Front Porch Floor Easily & Affordably
This project only took us one afternoon and one gallon of paint. And I’m so happy with the results!
Here’s our front porch before:
This was the original 1973 concrete slab that was poured. It had stains, paint drips, and a lot of imperfections. Time for an update, especially after we painted the front door!
And here’s the after:
The color isn’t a drastic change, but the smoothness and evenness of the color is way better! It feels so much smoother on your feet, and the color looks so fresh and clean.
Can I stain my concrete floor myself?
Yes! This project was not very hard at all. You don’t need any special tools and it doesn’t take a lot of time, especially if you have a small porch or patio like us.
Here are the supplies we used:
Valspar Concrete Sealer in Solid Concrete Grey – 1 gallon
Paint Roller
2″ Paint Brush
What is the best paint or stain for a porch floor?
We found the perfect one in all product that works as a primer, paint, and sealer. So, it took away a lot of steps.
We used Valspar Concrete Sealer in Solid Concrete Grey.
There are a lot of color choices to pick from. Be sure to choose a solid instead of transparent if you need to cover stains and imperfections.
How do you prepare a porch floor for painting or staining?
We started by blowing off all of the dust and dirt. Then, we used a degreaser and a car wash brush to scrub the floor to get rid of the dirt. And finally, we used a pressure washer to clean all the soap off and let it dry really well.
How do you paint or stain a concrete front porch floor?
This was so much easier than I had expected!
We used a 2″ paint brush to trim around the edges of the concrete slab, and a paint roller to paint the larger area.
It took two coats, and dried pretty quickly.
Note: This sealer has a VERY strong odor. I would recommend wearing a paint respirator mask. The smell was very strong, and seemed to seep into our house, too. It cleared out after a day, but it was very very strong smelling.
This is definitely an easy and affordable DIY project to update your front porch or patio floor. You can do this project in an afternoon, and with just a few supplies.
There were many paint colors to choose from, and you could even do a fun design like stripes or a stencil.
