I love painting furniture! In fact, it’s one of my favorite side jobs to make a little extra money. These 3 side tables just got a fresh makeover and are ready for their new homes!
I’ll show you what they originally looked like, how I painted them, and of course, the final makeover! Hopefully, you will find inspiration to paint old furniture for your home, or to sell for some side income.
3 Side Table Makeovers
First, you might be wondering where to find cheap furniture to paint. Yard sales, thrift stores, and the dumpster are the best places to find furniture to paint and sell for a profit. You can get super cheap stuff, but make sure to get sturdy pieces that are real wood.

The Before
This side table came from a thrift store. I love the style of it and the little drawer.
This side table is a great classic shape, just needs a little makeover.
This style is a little chunkier, but it’s a great size for a nightstand.
I couldn’t wait to get some paint on these tables!
When I’m working on multiple tables at once, I lay out the paint and supplies I want to use for each table. Kind of make a game plan of how I want each one to look.
New handles or painted handles are a must to really complete a furniture makeover. I love shopping for handles and knobs at Hobby Lobby (50% off every other week). Simply spray painting the old handles or knobs is a great frugal option.
Side Table Makeover #1: Grey Chalk Paint with a Bronze Handle
For the first table, I chose a grey chalk paint (this one specifically) and a new, rustic bronze handle.
I sanded the top and flat areas, applied two coats of chalk paint, and screwed the new handle in.
How much cuter is this table now? I made about $30 profit on this table.
Side Table Makeover #2: White Chalk Paint with Gold Handles
For this table, I chose a linen white chalk paint and gold spray painted handles.
I love the classic look of this table, and it’s super functional with two nice drawers.
I think this table has more of a modern feel with the gold pulls. This one is posted for sale for $60 and I should make about $50 profit from it.
Side Table Makeover #3: White with Bronze Handles
For this last table, I used the same white paint, but added new, rustic bronze handles. These are also from Hobby Lobby (here are some similar ones).
I really like this classic, sturdy design. It’s perfect for a nightstand!
The handles really make this table, I think. I love them!
This table is posted for $60, which would give me about $50 profit.
Painting furniture really is fun work to me, especially when I can bring in a little side money each month!
