Here are some ways teenagers can make money, starting today!
15 Teenage Job Ideas:
These are some great ideas of things they can do from home, or around the neighborhood. Encourage your teen to reach out to family members, neighbors, or family friends asking for job opportunities to see what is available.
Discuss with your teenager what skills they have, what they can learn to do, and what tools they have to complete jobs.
You can help them determine what price to charge, as well – per hour or per job. Encourage them to print flyers, or make phone calls letting people know they are available for work and what they can do.
1. Sell stuff
Selling stuff they longer use, need, or want can be a great way to make money fast. They can sell items to friends, cousins, or you can help them list the item on Facebook marketplace.
Encourage them to look around their room and find things they no longer want that could be sold for extra cash. This is a great way to keep the clutter down, too!
2. Tutor other kids
If your teen is great at a certain school subject or other skill, they could tutor other students as a side job.
This may be an ongoing job with steady income for them, too!
3. Give music lessons
If your teen loves to play music, they could give music lessons as a side job. Again, this could turn into steady income.
Word of mouth would work great to get more customers.
4. Lawn care
For older teens, a lawn care business could be a great source of income. This could work especially well in a neighborhood where they could push the mower or drive the mower right over, without a truck.
Print up flyers or make a yard sign to advertise this work.
I know many people would appreciate having an affordable lawn care service, and helping a teenager make some money.
5. Clean houses
Cleaning houses for family members, grandparents, or busy neighbors could be a great source of income. Help your teen decide what cleaning tasks they can complete, and they can design a printed flyer or make phone calls offering the service.
This could also be a great opportunity for them to learn about couponing and finding deals on cleaning supplies!
6. Help a local farmer/gardener
If your teen is interested in farming or gardening, they could become an apprentice or just part time help for a farmer or someone with a large garden.
An extra set of hands comes in handy with farming and gardening!
They can help plant, pull weeds, harvest, water, or take care of animals.
7. Rake leaves
Raking leaves in the fall could be a great seasonal type of income for your teen. This could work especially well in a neighborhood.
Encourage your teen to ask neighbors if they need help raking leaves, or have them print some flyers.
8. Shovel snow
If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow, shoveling snow and clearing driveways could be a great seasonal type of income.
Your teenager can ask neighbors if they need any help clearing their driveway or sidewalk, and it may become a small steady job for the season.
9. Walk dogs
Walking dogs could be a great steady part time income for your teen. There are many busy fur parents that don’t have time to walk their dogs as they wish they could.
Teens can walk dogs early in the morning, or after school. This would be great for them to learn how to take care of animals and also get some exercise.
10. Dog sit
If you would be okay with dogs at your home, your teen can offer a dog sitting business to care for animals while their owners are out of town.
This could be great during the summer or during school breaks, when they can care for the dog at all times.
11. Clean pools
If you live in a neighborhood with several pools, or have a neighbor or family member that has a pool, this could be a part time job for a teen.
They would need to learn how to test the pool water, use a pool vacuum and skimmer, and how to add any chemicals needed to the pool.
12. Help with laundry
Helping an elderly neighbor, busy mom, or family with their laundry could be a great way to make some extra cash.
This could be set up on a weekly or twice a week basis, where they could pick up the laundry, wash it at home, and deliver it back fresh and folded. (You may need to take a commission for the increased water usage.)
Or, they could hang out at the home (if it’s a family member or friend), while doing the laundry there.
13. Babysit
For older teenagers, babysitting or offering nanny type services could be a great part time job.
It would be great for the teen to have some training, including CPR certification.
14. Wash cars
Washing cars would be a great summer or after school job. Your teen can decided if they would like people to drop their cars off at your home, or if they can go around the neighborhood and wash the cars in people’s driveway. (The latter would be better so they didn’t use your water.)
They can offer different packages, such as just a plain wash or with more detailing.
15. Meal prep help
If your teen is interested in working in the kitchen and cooking, they could start up a meal prep business to help busy families or elderly neighbors with meals.
They could offer different levels of help like grocery shopping and delivering, or making casseroles or meals that can be purchased and frozen.
This could be a great steady job if you find the right customer who wants to purchase a few meals each week, or needs groceries delivered each week.
