This is just a fun post to show you what we did on our 7 day trip to Maui, Hawaii!
Hawaii has been on our bucket list for a while, and I am so glad we got to take this trip! We made so many memories, saw some amazing things, and went on many adventures.
I’ll show you what we did each day and what our favorite things were!
Our 7 Day Maui Vacation!
We celebrated a few things on this dream trip!
- Debt free! We paid off our house about 2 months ago, so this was perfect timing to celebrate that!
- Me working from home. I quit my full time job a few weeks ago, and now work for myself from home.
- Our 4 year wedding anniversary!
If you have a dream trip in mind, be sure to check out this post to save for your vacation!
Day 1
We had to wake up at about 3:30 am to catch our plane. But, we were so ready and excited to get there!
Waiting in the airport
We had two flights to get to Maui, both around 5 hours each.
Finally in Maui!
We got to the airport, took the shuttle to get our rental car, and were off!
First, we headed to grab some groceries before going to our condo. We knew we wanted to make breakfast and lunches to save on eating out.
Foodland and Safeway are the main grocery stores there. We got bacon, eggs, and fruit for breakfast. For lunch, we grabbed some bread, deli meat and cheese, and chips and salsa.
I had packed a lot of snacks for the plane ride and while we were there.
Got to our condo and realized it didn’t have air conditioning! Not sure how we missed that, but from what we heard and read, many places in Hawaii do not have air conditioning. So, I guess we were getting the full experience!
View from our condo
We were pretty worn out after the long flights, so we got settled into the condo, then went to grab some dinner and called it a night.
Banyan Tree Park
This is one tree that takes up a whole block in the middle of town.
Day 2
We had planned a full day for our first full day in Maui and it was so fun!
First, we hiked the Wai’hee Ridge Trail. This trail was pretty intense, climbing 1500 ft, but the views were amazing!
Hiking the Wai’hee Ridge Trail
We made it to the top!
Next, we ventured around the top of West Maui to find hidden tide pools and the blowhole.
Olivine Pools
These tide pools are really cool! You have to climb down some rocks to get to them, but they are pretty fascinating.
Nakalele Blowhole
This blowhole is really cool, and was blowing pretty strong when we were there.
After seeing all this, we took a break and hung out at the beach!
Day 3
On day 3, we drove the road to Hana. This is a more undiscovered part of Maui. Many people drive this road to Hana to see sights off the road like waterfalls, go on hidden hikes, and drive over the one lane bridges.
We set out early and filled up with the gas in the funky little town of Paia.
Paia
There are some really cool bridges and waterfalls along the drive.
On the road to Hana, there are pullovers and small parking spaces to check out cool sights. It’s kind of wild when everyone is pulling over all the time and jumping out to explore or take pictures.
Garden of Eden
We stopped at the Garden of Eden along the way. This is a beautiful park full of trees, flowers, plants, and great views of a waterfall.
You do have to pay $15 per person, and while it was really pretty, I would skip this next time. There are a lot of really cool and free things to do instead.
We got back on the road and saw some incredible views of the water and cliffs.
Ching’s Pond
We were following along in the Maui Revealed Guidebook (a must if you want to know what to look for on the road to Hana), and found Ching’s Pond.
This is under a bridge and people just pull over, and climb down to the water. There was a local jumping from the bridge into the water!
Halfway to Hana
There are lots of little food stands, farm stands, and markets along the way.
Waikani Falls aka Three Bears Waterfall
The best experience ever – swimming under a waterfall!
We had to climb down boulders and under the bridge to get to this waterfall. But, it was so worth it!
The sight was pretty amazing!
This waterfall is one of the biggest we saw, and the closest we got in person!
Hana Marketplace
This was a cool set of shops on the side of the road. They had food, baked goods, and a cute little shop of handmade items. You know I was excited to see Maui handmade crafts!
Waiʻānapanapa State Park
Next, we wanted to see a black sand beach. This was a really cool experience!
There was a cliff you could climb up to and see the water crashing up close!
Pig Crossing!
The Road Past Hana
A lot of people get to Hana town, and turn around. We decided to take the full loop around and I’m so glad we did!
Past Hana is the almost unpopulated area known as upcountry. There is a lot of farmland in this area.
It was so peaceful and there were so many pretty sights to see!
Day 3 was a long one, but one of our favorites!
Day 4
We decided to take it pretty easy this day, and went to South Maui starting at Kihei.
We went to a nice beach to relax, then grabbed lunch at Kihei Caffe, which was delicious!
After lunch, we ventured farther down the coast of South Maui. We stopped at Wailea Beach, which is super fancy and looks incredibly expensive.
There was a nice path to walk and see the pretty resorts and views around the area.
After Wailea, we headed to Makena Beach, also known as Big Beach. This area was very crowded (although somehow my picture still looks pretty peaceful) – not our favorite.
Dinner at Cool Cat Cafe in Lahaina.
Day 5
Day 5 was another favorite! It was the day of our helicopter tour!
We didn’t want to plan too many expensive activities, but this was one we really wanted to do.
Once we decided on the tour we wanted to go on, I searched Groupon and found we could get a deal through them! Yay!
We booked a DOORS OFF (!) West Maui and Molokai tour with Pacific Helicopter Tours. And it was amazing!
This might be the most adventurous thing I have ever done!
We saw so many breathtaking views!
This was a really amazing experience and I highly recommend it! The cool thing about Pacific Helicopter tours is that everyone has a window seat, so we got amazing pictures!
Did I mention it was doors off?!
So, so cool! My hair was a wreck after, though!
Later that day, we went to Iao Valley State Park to see the Iao Needle. There’s a lot of history here, but we didn’t think it was the best.
Dinner at Leilani’s at Ka’anapali Beach – a little fancy/expensive, but super delicious!
Maui’s famous drink is a Mai Tai, so I had to try one!
Day 6
We started the day with a hike near Paia, then headed to Mana Foods to grab some lunch.
Mana Foods is like a grocery store, but they sell mostly natural, organic, and healthy foods. In the back, there was a grab and go lunch section and some hot food items. We grabbed sandwiches, kettle chips, and a big cookie. All were delicious!
Next, we headed to the Haleakala Crater. This is a volcano that is still considered active, but hasn’t erupted for hundreds of years.
We had to drive a long way and climb to a high elevation to get there!
It was freezing and very windy once you got to the summit!
We had planned to stay for a picnic dinner and watch the sunset, but honestly we didn’t think it was that exciting and the wind and cold had us missing the beach down below.
So, we looked around and took some pictures, and headed back down the mountain.
Day 7
Our last full day in Maui… We stopped at a few beaches and drove around to take in all the scenery we could.
We found a secluded beach in upper West Maui called Oneloa Beach.
It was so nice and quiet, and the perfect place to learn how to boogie board!
I was surprised how much fun this could be!
For dinner, we grabbed a pizza from Beachwalk Kau Kau and ate on the beach. It was a perfect ending to our trip!
And the most beautiful sunset to say goodbye to Maui.
If you ever have the chance to go to Maui, I would highly recommend it! There are so many beautiful and unique parts of the island – all ready to be explored!
