As my best friend and co-host, Lauren, said, “When you have two college friends having babies and one getting married, and the closest person lives two hours away, and the farthest person lives 10 hours away, you have a combined shower!”
And that’s just what we did!
We made a combined bridal and baby shower work somehow and it was so sweet and fun!
We made sure the guests of honor were all ok with the idea first and they loved the idea of celebrating everyone together!
A Combined Bridal and Baby Shower
Theme
We decided to keep the theme very simple since it was celebrating both babies and a bride. Since both pregnant guests of honor are having boys, we choose aqua blue, teal, and gold as the color theme.
Invites
I love using Vistaprint for frugal party invitations. They have some great basic invitations and you can change the wording to fit your party.
For the combined bridal and baby shower, we were really unsure of what wording to use on the invitation.
We decided on: “Please join us for a couple’s shower celebrating two babies and a bride!” and then listed the couple’s names that we were celebrating.
The invite had a blue, teal, and gold tissue tassel garland which matched our theme perfectly!
Gifts
Since this shower was for 3 different couples, we knew some guests would only know one or two of the couples and may not feel comfortable buying the other gifts.
We added a short note on the back of the invitation stating, “If you wish to bring a gift, the couple’s are registered at:”, and then listed each couple’s registry locations. At the bottom, we added the note: “Please do not feel obligated to bring a gift for all honorees. Bring for 1, 2, or all – whoever you are close to!”
For our shower, this worked great. Guests felt comfortable bringing a gift for just those they were closest to. Some did bring a small gift for the others, but knew it was not necessary.
Decorations
We kept the decorations pretty simple. The party was held on our patio, which is already decorated, so we didn’t need to do a whole lot.
We used white tablecloths and fresh yellow daisies and baby’s breath flower arrangements.
I made a tissue tassel garland for the food table to match the invitation.
A pretty streamer backdrop was great for pictures. I just used two plastic tablecloths, streamers, ribbon, and a bunch of staples and tape to cover our garage door and create a photo backdrop!
I taped the backdrop in our kitchen to make it – My husband thought I was crazy!!
It looked great with the wind blowing in the photos!
Dollar Tree has cute baby shower decorations, too!
A fun summer banner and gold paper lanterns added some color to the patio!
Gold party straws and polka dotted napkins gave a touch of the party theme to the drink bar.
Ready to Pop and Popping Questions!
Games
Since this was a couple’s shower, we didn’t plan many games or activities, since we knew everyone would just want to talk and catch up. We did set up a balloon dart game, which is so easy and fun to play! Guests could play each other, or just have a little fun throwing darts at the balloons!
All you have to do is blow up a bunch of balloons (air compressor helped me out!), staple them on a pallet, and have some darts ready! Kids really like this one, too!
Food
We ordered BBQ from one of our favorite college town spots, had individual chip bags, and cupcakes. Simple and easy!
BBQ is very easy to serve to a crowd, and you can always freeze any leftovers! The individual chip bags were great so guests could just have a little snack and the kids loved them!
Oh and the cupcakes may have been the best I ever had! 🙂 Yum!
The picnic basket was cute to hold the plates, napkins, and silverware and also kept them from blowing away in the wind.
Drinks
We served lemonade in a dispenser on my old door turned drink bar, beer in a cooler, and water bottles in a drink tub on a rustic yellow chair.
It was so fun celebrating the upcoming arrival of two baby boys and a wedding!! We had so much fun catching up and talking babies and weddings! So good to see everyone!
We had so much fun throwing a combined bridal and baby shower! It was kinda crazy, but so much fun to celebrate everyone together and see everyone!
