Looking for fun things to do this summer, but not wanting to wreck your budget? It’s hard to not want to take a vacation, or go to an amusement park, or buy concert tickets when the weather is so nice and there are so many things going on.
Try to pick one big activity per summer, or per month, and plan cheap summer activities from this list to fill in the rest of the warm summer months.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great summer!

- Head to a local community pool.
- Check out nearby parks and go on a family walk.
- Play in the sprinklers!
- Make homemade popsicles. Try these molds with pureed fruit or Kool Aid.
- Take the dog to the park for Frisbee.
- Go camping and have a scavenger hunt.
- Head out to a local playground.
- Pack a picnic and enjoy a relaxing day outside.
- Declutter your home and have a yard sale.
- Head to a local fair or festival. Search for discount tickets or discount days.
- Search for a free local concert to check out.
- Plant and tend to a garden.
- Make garden markers.
- Search Pinterest for dollar store craft projects.
- Make homemade ice cream.
- Ask around or search for movies in the park around your area.
- Check Groupon for deals on local attractions, restaurants, and things to do.
- Instead of a dinner and movie date, go out for ice cream instead.
- Take a bike ride in a scenic park.
- Plan a one day road trip to see local attractions.
- Search for a nearby drive in to see a movie.
Summer is such a fun and busy time of the year. But, if you aren’t careful you can go over budget really quick going from activity to activity.
Try to plan days at home, no spend days, and cheap activities to keep your family entertained without spending a fortune.
If you limit the big things to one a month or one per summer, you can still enjoy a fun summer and not break your budget.
